About Us

About the Group:

Our group began in September 2008 with just a few ladies, most of which were beginners.  We now have 100 plus ladies that actively participate in the group and have created thousands of hats, scarves, and many other items!  Our handmade items are donated to multiple places throughout the McKinney and Dallas area.

Texas Oncology McKinney (both locations):  Adult chemo hats, scarves, prayer shawls and lap blankets

Medical City Children’s Hospital:  Preemis teen-sized hats, scarves (children’s to adult sized), blankets (preemie to twin-bed sized), and preemie bereavement items (buntings, hats, gowns and blankets for too-early angels)

UT Southwestern Moncrief Radiation Clinic:  Adult hats and scarves

Parkland Hospital:  Adult hats for outpatient oncology clinic

Mission trips:  Over the years, we have supported mission trips to various places throughout the globe—from Bolivia, South Africa, Hungary, Turkey and India.  We continue to look for new opportunities to spread hope and comfort around the globe.

Come join one of our weekly meetings:

Tuesday mornings:         10AM in the Fireside Room at FBC McKinney

Wednesday evenings:    6:30PM in the Craft Room at FBC McKinney (During the summer, email me at gina@yarnsofhope.org before attending on Wednesday evenings—our summer times are sporadic.)

These meetings are designed to share ideas, expertise, and patterns.  Also, those interested in learning to knit or crochet can learn the basics from one of our members.   Perhaps most importantly, completed items can be brought to these meetings.

Come join our group of busy ladies!!  We welcome all levels of expertise—beginner, experienced or merely interested!  Quite a few of our ladies joined the group not knowing how to hold a needle or hook and are now creating hats and scarves.  You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to learn!!
